LeBron James agrees to two-year contract

LeBron James' agent, Klutch Sports Group, said that the Los Angeles Lakers and the NBA star have reached an agreement on a contract extension

worth $97.1 million over two years, with a player option for the 2024–25 season.

After the upcoming season, James was slated to become a free agent.

His career on-court earnings would reach $529 million if the four-time MVP exercised the option

According to Spotrac. On the basis of current guaranteed contracts, the total is the highest in American sports history.

he previous record was held by fellow NBA star Kevin Durant, who is ready to begin a four-year, $194 million contract with the Brooklyn Nets.

His contract was worth $499 million. Mike Trout, a three-time MLB MVP, is third with $480 million.

Due to a restriction in the NBA CBA for players who are 38 years old or older, James was only eligible for a two-year deal.

In December, LeBron will turn 38. Based on current pay expectations for the 2023–2024 season, the extension's worth has been calculated.

Even though the four-time NBA champion has made a fortune on the field, his earnings off it are more than double that amount.

After retiring, Michael Jordan earned ten figures, making him the first NBA player to do so while still in the league.

Since his selection in 2003, James has made an estimated $790 million via endorsements, merchandise, licensing, and his media company in addition to $370 million in pay (net of escrow deductions).

James made $127 million in the calendar year that ended in May 2022.
