Tione Jayden Merritt (born April 30, 2001), known professionally as Lil Tjay,[1] is an American rapper and singer. He rose to prominence in 2018 with his song "Resume," and signed to Columbia Records later that year.

Lil Tjay's debut studio album, True 2 Myself, was released in 2019. The following year, he released the mixtape State of Emergency that features only drill artists from New York City. 

Merritt was born in the Bronx borough of New York City.[1] He was raised by a single mother and had two younger siblings in what was described as a "roomy" apartment. Merritt called himself the problematic child out of the three, as he would often get himself into petty robberies and school fights. 

Ferguson spent most of his time during the 2019 draft, in which he was the 85th player selected, helping his hometown of Ruston, Louisiana, recover from a deadly tornado. He helped search for people while removing uprooted trees from the street. He also helped bring water and pizza to people in need.

In an early-morning tweet, the Bergen County prosecutor’s office said that its major crimes unit and the Edgewater Police Department are investigating a shooting with two victims that occurred around midnight Wednesday at 14 The Promenade, a shopping plaza in Edgewater.

TMZ reported Wednesday that one of the victims was the 21-year-old rapper and that he was undergoing surgery. The extent of his wounds and his condition were not yet known.

Representatives for the rapper, whose given name is Tione Jayden Merritt, and for the prosecutor’s office did not immediately respond Wednesday to The Times’ requests for comment.
