The bye week for Baker Mayfield came to an end with a new demand for a moving truck.

The quarterback was dismissed by the Panthers on Monday morning, according to the organization.

The roster information was initially released by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, and Mayfield will now be placed on the waiver wire.

The 27-year-old requested his release, but there is much to discuss behind his departure, beginning with a lackluster stint as Carolina's starting quarterback.

fter a lackluster competition during training camp between Sam Darnold and P.J. Walker,

the Panthers acquired Mayfield in July for what was viewed as a cheap price of a conditional fifth-round pick, giving Carolina its starting quarterback.

Though he struggled to improve the offense in his first five games of 2022, a losing streak that threatened head coach Matt Rhule his job,

Mayfield never felt at home with the Panthers. In Week 6, he was forced to sit on the bench due to an injury.

Before Carolina interim head coach Steve Wilks changed course and elected to go with a healthy Darnold in Week 12, Mayfield got one more start in Week 11

and threw two interceptions in a defeat to Baltimore. After two weeks, Mayfield lost her job.
