Hakeem Jeffries, a representative from New York, is one of the front-runners to succeed Nancy Pelosi as the Democratic House Leader

Since reports that Pelosi will resign, one of the candidates, 52-year-old Jeffries, has received the most attention, according to The Washington Post.

When Pelosi resigned, Jeffries tweeted his appreciation for her service to the public, showing how much he respected and looked up to her as a leader.

Since 2013, Jeffries has served as a congressman. The district currently includes portions of Brooklyn and Queens, but after redistricting, in 2023 it will only include portions of Brooklyn

Prospect Heights is home to Jeffries. Jeffries has served in Congress for almost ten years and in a variety of capacities.

From 2017 to 2019, he served as the co-chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee. In January 2019, he was elected to lead the House Democratic Caucus.

Jeffries had spent years running for a variety of political positions before he decided to run for Congress. He ran for Assemblyman in 2000 against Roger Green, but lost.
