Kyrie Irving Early Life
On March 23, 1992, in Melbourne, Australia, Kyrie Irving was born. American college basketball players Drederick and Elizabeth Irving, who are his parents, met while competing in Australia. In West Orange, New Jersey, Kyrie and his sister Asia were raised. Kyrie was a three-sport star in basketball, soccer, and track at Montclair Kimberley Academy. He guided his basketball team to the state title as a junior. Kyrie enrolled in Duke University in 2010.
He became one of the top college basketball players very fast, scoring 17.5 points and 4.3 assists per game as a freshman. In 2011, Kyrie assisted Duke in making it to the NCAA Championship game, where they fell to University of Connecticut. Kyrie made the decision to enter the NBA Draft after two years at Duke. The Cleveland Cavaliers chose him with the first overall pick. After being chosen for the All-Star squad in 2014 and 2015, Kyrie went on to win Rookie of the Year accolades in 2012. The Cleveland Cavaliers selected Kyrie Irving with the first overall choice in the 2011 NBA Draft. He was a seven-time All-Star and a two-time All-NBA Team member who assisted the Cleveland Cavaliers in winning their first NBA title in 2016 after 13 seasons. As a member of the US national team, he won gold medals at the 2014 and 2016 FIBA Basketball World Cups. Cleveland Cavaliers picked Irving first overall in the 2011 NBA Draft. On February 28, 2014, Irving recorded his first triple-double, tallying a career-high 21 points, 12 assists, and ten rebounds in a 99-79 victory over Utah.
