Mekapati Goutham Reddy was born 2nd November 1971 to Mr Rajamohan Mekapati and Mrs Manimanjari, He is the first of three boys,his two brothers are Vikram Reddy and Prithvi Kumar Reddy. His father, Reddy, was a former Member of Parliament of Nellore Lok Sabha constituency and his uncle, Chandrasekhar Reddy, is also a politician and is currently representing MLA Udayagiri Assembly constituency. Mekapati was an alumnus of University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. He was married to Sri Keerthi and the couple had two children, a daughter with the name Ananya Reddy and a son with the name Arjun Reddy.
